While we can’t holiday abroad just now, it does look likely that we can spend some time exploring Scotland this summer.

Those that love Daffy’s gin can enjoy a staycation at the distillery in the self catering accommodation.

On site there’s the distillery cottage, which sleeps eight and the butler’s flat at Strathmashie House, which sleeps five.

While there guests can find out all about the gin, how it’s made, go foraging, enjoy tastings and a gin school classes as well as shop the range.

Colonsay gin lovers retreat

Gin fans can indulge in a staycation on the beautiful Island of Colonsay on this weekend retreat.

Colonsay is situated just under a two-and-a-half-hour ferry journey from Oban on the West Coast of Scotland, tucked between the better-known islands of Islay, Mull and neighbouring Jura.

Featuring a secluded house that contains over 200 gins from around the globe, the the retreat is described as the “ideal weekend for gin lovers” and is available to book as a three-day getaway from Friday to Sunday at £375 per person.

The retreat includes full board for up to four people, one pre-dinner gin cocktail on the Friday night, a pre-dinner five gin tasting on the Saturday night and a distillery tour on Saturday or Sunday.

The Wee Wooden Yurt

Consistently voted one of Scotland’ favourite gins, the Isle of Harris gin has become a classic over the last few years.

From its eye catching bottle to distinctive taste, fans can (in normal times) visit ‘the social distillery’ to see how the famous gin made and also find out about their whisky.

The distillery is also home to a shop and canteen that serve homemade soups and cakes, making this an ideal spot for lunch.

While there’s no accommodation on site, The Wee Wooden Yurt at Caolas Gallery is only five miles from Tarbert where the distillery is located.

The charming accommodation sleeps two and has uninterrupted sea views.

Torrisdale Castle Estate

Gin fans can stay on the estate where the Kintyre Beinn An Tuirc gin and gin school are located.

The estate has five different accommodations, from the servants quarters, which sleeps six, to the south lodge, garden and arch cottages (all that sleep two).

A hot tub and sauna can be enjoyed in the servants quarters and there’s views over to Arran from the grounds.

Guests can walk to the distillery for a tour, gin school class and tasting – meaning there’s no need for a designated driver.

Peebles Hydro

Enjoy a weekend away at a Borders hotel that is also home to a gin school and distillery with a trip to the Peebles Hydro hotel.

The 1881 gin distillery is the UK’s largest residential gin school located within the 132- bedroom hotel and resort, with a distillery classroom that has 26 mini-stills.

Visitors can book a gin distiller experience, tours and tastings or just browse the shop for the 1881 gin range.

Enjoy Stirling and its namesake gin at this dedicated gin break available to book now from Hotel Colessio.

The package includes an overnight stay, two course dinner in the Grill Room and breakfast as well as a tour of the Stirling Gin Distillery and a G&T and welcome cocktail.

The Torridon

This luxurious Wester Ross hotel is a favourite stop on the North Coast 500 and the restaurant serves some truly excellent Scottish cuisine.

The hotel is also home to its own gin – Arcturus – which is made with locally sourced Highland botanicals. 

Visitors can look forward to an Arcturus perfect serve or cocktail in the hotel bar.

A popular spot on the North Coast 500 route, the hotel is an ideal base for exploring the area’s breweries and distilleries including Dunnet Bay home of Rock Rose gin.

The distillery is usually open for tours and tastings from March until November.

Soak up some five star luxury at Glasgow’s Kimpton Blythswood Square hotel.

Their Bo and Birdy or Salon bars offer a range of gin cocktails and perfect serves or you can treat yourself to a treatment at the Gin Spa, located on Virginia Court in the city centre.

Just a short walk away is one of two Gin 71 bars, both which stock over 50 gins.

The Hendrick’s Gin Palace is just over an hour’s drive away in Girvan. More locally you can visit Crossbill Gin in the Barras and The Glasgow Distillery, home of Makar Gin.

Beechtree Cottage

This one bed, dog-friendly cottage in Forres are ideal for a self catering break in the Highlands.

Better still, gin lovers are within a short drive to the Benromach Distillery where a tour and tasting of Red Door gin can be booked.

Located behind one of the red doors, the distillery and experience is situated in one room, which houses the copper gin still, an interactive botanicals station and a gin bar.

What makes this distillery a bit different from other gins is that it uses a vapour-infused distilling method that steams the neutral base spirit through eight botanicals before being bottled at 45% ABV.
