Bake Off’s Mary Berry set to host new BBC cooking series

The Great British Bake Off alumni and Best Home Cook judge Mary Berry has landed herself a new BBC series.

The show, which will be coming to BBC Two and consist of six episodes, will be titled Mary Berry: Cook and Share. As the name implies, it’ll be about making food to share, from romantic dinners for two to batch cooking for big gatherings.

Mary will be travelling across the UK to see families take part in various celebrations, including some summer festivals. Will we see Mary raving it up at Glastonbury? She does like Ibiza, so we hope so.

In a statement, Mary herself is quoted as saying: “Sharing recipes is always an utter joy for me and this series is the ultimate guide, whether you are cooking for a crowd or just for two.

“I’m loving visiting some spectacular parts of the country at extraordinary events, gatherings and beautiful locations for this new series.

“I have always believed there is no better way to spend time with family and friends than over fresh home-cooked food – and now more than ever that feels so important.”

The series is being accompanied by a Cook and Share book, as announced by Mary’s long-time assistant Lucy Young. The book will be out in September, while the series will follow after.

Mary’s former Bake Off co-judge Paul Hollywood recently spoke about the show’s controversial move to Channel 4, where he was the only on-screen face to remain.

“Oh, I was called every name under the sun,” he said. “It was so horrendous, I actually cried.

“No one wants to be painted as the pantomime villain, especially when I was just sticking with a job I loved. But you can’t kick against it. David Walliams actually took me aside and said: ‘Mate, it’s just a game. Enjoy it.’ You’re clickbait, basically. It hurt me. After a while, though, I got tough. I just thought: ‘OK, I’ll be your bad guy.'”

Meanwhile, the most recent Bake Off winner Giuseppe has announced his own cookbook, and you can find out more here.

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it’s known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
