SCOTLAND has a longstanding affinity with curries – and our fondness has stood the test of time as it remains our top takeaway.
Figures show that when Scots choose to order in their dinner, an Indian is still the nation’s favourite.
Takeaway orders have surged over the last year, with it being one of the few comforts that hasn’t been tightly restricted for long periods of lockdown.
And Just Eat have revealed that a whopping 24 per cent of their 2020 orders were for Indians.
It is now the ELEVENTH year in a row that the South Asian cuisine has topped the list, as curries monopolise Scotland’s cheat meal deliveries.
Chinese takeaways came in second, a position they have held for the last decade, and fish and chips rounded off the top three.
Overall, Just Eat saw an increase in orders of almost a third (31 per cent) from 2019 to 2020.
Some of our favourite takeaways saw a big surge, with a 120 per cent rise in Indian orders, chippies up 273 per cent and pizza orders surging by almost 200 per cent.
There has also been a massive increase in people ordering desserts and chicken, both up by more than 2,500 per cent.

Glasgow’s relationship with Indian takeaway is well known, with the city believed to be the birthplace of the Chicken Tikka Masala.
With a number of top curry houses in Glasgow, including Shish Mahal and the Ashoka, it is unsurprising that the Indian topped the list for the city’s favourite takeaway.
But it wasn’t the same story in some of Scotland’s other cities, with Chinese the favourite order for those in Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
In the capital, the East Asian cuisine is slightly more popular than fish and chips, with pizza slightly ahead of Indian in fourth.
In Aberdeen, a Chinese more than twice as popular as the second-placed Indian, with fish and chips in third.
