Marks & Spencer has built a reputation amongst foodies as a shop that isn’t afraid to experiment with new food trends from around the world.

And its latest innovation has driven fans into a frenzy over Instagram as the store announced it’s becoming the first UK store to launch an iconic American snack.

Stores across London now stock a mysterious new kind of tortilla chip, coloured brown and made with Mexican bluecorn.

Its post read: “MAJOR SNACK ALERT! Having taken the US by storm, we are the FIRST to launch Bluecorn Tortilla Chips! Made from an authentic blue corn ‘masa’ to bring you a true taste of Mexico and … they’re extremely moreish!

“Bluecorn has more benefits than traditional corn and these tortilla chips: they’re high in fibre, gluten free, vegan and only 126 calorie per portion! De nada!”

Naturally news of the store’s new product sent its devoted fans into overdrive.

One Instagram account, aptly named the hungry food monsters, wept with joy saying: “Those tortilla chips look absolutely delicious.”

Another named the baking explorer agreed saying: “Oh I need to get some of these! I had them in restaurants before and they’re so good!!”

However one user warned that other shoppers might need to stock up on the moreish treat.

They said: “The BEST! They lasted all of 10 mins with our dips on Saturday.”

Another user agreed forlornly: “It’s a shame one large bag isn’t one portion.”

Yes, but life has other plans for us all I’m afraid.
