With the start of a new month, the sun shining and for many of you, a summer holiday, we thought now would be a great time to round-up the best new food and drink places in Glasgow.

Despite a number of businesses closing over a tough last 18 months, we’ve been heartened by the number of occasions we’ve been able to report on the opening of a brand new bar, restaurant, coffee shop, cafe and more.

And with restrictions having eased over recent weeks – and hopefully a further relaxation of Covid-19 rules on the horizon – every one of us is keen to get out and sample our city’s eateries.

Here, we’ve got a good variety of spots you should add to your list, including the return of a legendary pub, a fancy-looking new Italian restaurant making its way from London as well as a bar, disco and bowling alley found at the top of a new hotel.

Make sure to check the venues’ social media channels for the latest on their opening dates, however, we’re expecting each of the following to open their doors very soon.

VEGA

Glasgow’s newest rooftop bar and bowling alley is set to open this month on the seventh floor of one of Glasgow’s newest hotels, YOTEL Glasgow.

Named after one of the brightest stars in the universe, the venue has been created with Instagram in mind and boasts rooftop views of the city and an interior inspired by Glasgow’s music scene and British pop culture with a distinctly ‘space-age’ vibe.

We recently got an exclusive first look inside which you can see here.

The Avalon

A legendary old pub is close to a much-welcome return. Work has been well underway at The Avalon for a number of weeks, with progress pics being shared regularly on their Instagram… and this is one reopening that we’re very excited about.

Described as a beer house and pizzeria, The Avalon will serve the likes of cocktails and provide ‘entertainment ’til late’, seven days a week.

The Kent Road premises, which was previously occupied by The Whiski Craft, will be warmly welcomed back by westeneders.

Partenope

An exciting new Italian bakery and coffee shop will soon serve customers in Shawlands.

The former YZ Stores Groceries and Newsagents on the junction of Hector Road and Tassie Street has been transformed, with work having been ongoing for a number of weeks.

Speaking previously to Glasgow Live, husband and wife duo Toni and Sara say they are hoping to serve up their fresh bread, cakes, pizza, focaccia, coffees and more Italian-inspired sweets and treats to southsiders – we’re hoping to give you an opening date soon!

SubClub’s new rooftop bar and restaurant

As we reported recently, Sub Club director Mike Grieve has been granted a licence for a pop-up rooftop bar and restaurant.

The 120-seat venue is set to open at The Schoolhouse, an office building in Kinning Park.

Meanwhile, Japanese restaurant Ramen Dayo has been lined up to provide food to visitors to the rooftop terrace at 101 Portman Street.

Flock Finnieston

Finnieston’s latest food addition, Flock, introduced itself to westenders just last week, serving breakfasts Wednesday to Sunday and chicken dinners too.

Check out their Instagram for a peek at some of their ridiculously good-looking and creative menu options including sriracha scrambled egg rolls, chicken wings, thighs and tenders.

Even better, they roast their coffee on-site too, while there’s a number of plant-based options for vegans as well.

Celentano’s

‘Built from a passion of sharing good food & wine with family & friends’, London chef Dean Parker and his wife Anna are bringing Celentano’s to Glasgow.

The new Italian restaurant and bar will pop up at the beautiful Cathedral House, which recently housed the much-loved Crabshakk.

Celentano’s Instagram page gives a taste of what’s to come, with a full opening scheduled for the start of August. Counting down to welcoming in customers, Dean and Anna say: “Celentano’s was inspired by our love and passion for Italian food, warm hospitality and a zero waste attitude to seasonal cooking.” We’re licking our lips in anticipation.
