Being in Tier 2 means Surrey residents are not allowed to eat inside a restaurant with anyone other than the people they live with.

The tighter restrictions have meant the hospitality industry has had to severely adapt in order to survive.

With Christmas normally the busiest time of the year for the sector, pubs and restaurants lucky enough to have outdoor space have had to improvise to ensure overheads are met.

While alfresco dining is usually associated with balmy summer evenings and refreshing cocktails, some eateries have transformed their gardens into magical spots for winter socialising and warming tipples.

They’ve pulled out all the stops, from heaters and blankets to twinkling lights and hot alcoholic cocktails to encourage people to support local businesses.
