Burrata pasta is one of my all-time favorite dishes. This is a sun dried tomato pesto pasta with burrata on top– takes a few minutes to make, but tastes out of this world delicious! The pesto coats the pasta with flavor, and the burrata cheese takes the dish to a whole new level! Step by step and video below.

There’s something about pasta that screams pure comfort. Today’s burrata pasta recipe is packed with flavor and drenched in a creamy sun dried tomato pesto, sprinkle of parm, fresh basil, and good-quality burrata cheese for a rich creamy taste.

Why Burrata Pasta?

Burrata cheese is made from mozzarella and cream and then wrapped in a sphere like shape and a unique rich taste and texture. This white sphere of cheese has a delicate interior of cream and curd and an exterior shell of mozzarella. It’s smooth and flowy texture helps it stand out.

When the cheese is added over the pasta, it creates a rich and creamy dish that’s just luscious! Burrata pasta is not only a tasty and comfort food meal, it’s also rich and indulgent. And it takes no time or effort except for cooking the pasta because I always have Sun Dried Tomato Pesto on hand!

PS–this burrata pasta recipe can be made as is by using Basil Pesto and tossing it with the pasta like Pesto Pasta with Pistachio Pesto. Top with the burrata cheese and indulge right away!! 

Burrata Pasta Ingredients

  • Burrata Cheese — The creamy dreamy icing on the cake of your pasta dish.
  • Pasta — Any type would work here, I’ve used bucatini because I love it and had it on hand 🙂
  • Fresh basil — compliments the sun dried tomato pesto beautifully. 
  • Parmesan –Just a little bit of it mixed with the pasta water and sun dried tomato pesto to create a thick sauce.
  • Salt — Flavor booster!
  • Jar of Sun Dried Tomato Pesto — the perfect flavor base to your pasta and the perfect pair to Burrata cheese! Another pesto you can use here is Basil Pesto.
  • Quality Olive Oil — I love Mina olive oil.

How to Make Burrata Pasta?

Here’s the easiest burrata pasta recipe for you!

  1. Cook pasta in a large pot of boiling water following package directions for al dente. Drain pasta water, and set it aside.

        2. Keep. at least 1 1/2 cups of the pasta water on the side. This will help create the sauce for you.

    3. Add the Sun Dried Tomato Pesto over the cooked pasta and start tossing them together. Loosen up the sauce with the pasta           water, and add in some Parmesan cheese to thicken the sauce and boost the flavor.

        4. At this time, the pasta is ready! The beauty here is you can add more or less of the pesto sauce to your taste. I often feel like          drenching the pasta completely in pesto, while other times I just lightly toss it in. So feel free to personalize 🙂

      5. Once the pasta is ready, it’s time for some Burrata Cheese. Add the Burrata cheese right on top and then use your hand or a        knife to tear up the burrata into chunks. Let the cream slowly seep into the sauce and let the cheese get warmed up with the            pasta. 

Your Burrata pasta is now ready! 

Burrata Tips

  • Use good quality burrata cheese. Make sure to read the expiry date as burrata cheese is fresh and usually has a short shelf life.
  • Burrata cheese comes stored in water, and it’s best to keep it in water until ready to use.
  • Cook the pasta in well-salted water to bring out its flavor and don’t overcook the pasta, as it can become mushy.
  • Keep at least 1 1/2 cups of pasta water on the side. This will help you create the sauce.
  • Sun Dried Tomato Pesto adds so much flavor to the pasta and it’s a no cook sauce, yet so very tasty and rich! 
  • Basil Pesto is a bright alternative and super refreshing when combined with burrata cheese.
  • Start by adding the pesto to coat the pasta and then introduce the pasta water as a way to loosen up and create a “saucy” sauce.
  • Alternate the pasta water and parmesan cheese while tossing the pasta to create a well balanced sauce. Personalize your sauce thickness and flavor based on your taste. So feel free to add more or less.
  • The burrata cheese sits comfortably over the pasta–no need to toss it in. Just make sure you break it apart and allow it to slow seep in the sauce.
  • Garnish with chilli flakes (optional), fresh basil and more Parm.

Burrata Pasta

Burrata Pasta is a favorite pasta recipe –tossed in sun dried tomato pesto and topped with Burrata Cheese! Pasta Burrata will take over your meals! Indulge with this pasta recipe (video included).

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 1
    lb
    pasta
    cooked al dente. Choose the shape and type you prefer.
  • 1
    cup
    pasta water
    reserve after the pasta has finished cooking
  • 1/2
    cup
    freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2
    tablespoons
    Fresh basil
  • 1
    burrata cheese
    torn or cut apart
  • 1/2
    teaspoon
    chilli flakes
    optional
  • 1/4
    teaspoon
    salt and pepper
    to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta to al dente in a large pan of salted water.

  2. Have your Sun Dried Tomato Pesto out of the fridge or prepare it in 5 minutes

  3. Reserve a cup to a cup and half of pasta water once the pasta has cooked

  4. Drain the pasta and start tossing it in the Sun Dried Tomato Pesto . Add more or less to your taste.

  5. Alternate between the pasta water and Parmesan cheese while tossing the pasta to create a luscious and creammy sauce.

  6. Add more of the pesto here of you’d like

  7. Serve the pasta with the torn bits of burrata cheese over the top and allow it to seep in the sauce.

  8. Garnish with fresh basil, chilli flakes, salt and pepper.
