Here is the list of different foods eaten in Nigeria and how to cook them. Nigeria is a multi-lingual nation with over 250 different ethnic groups and tribes, hence Nigeria foods differs from one tribe to another.

Nigerians eat lots of whole grains and cereals, cassava and its products, beans, yam maize, potatoes, wheat, sorghum and several others. Nigerians consume lots of sweet fruits, the likes of mango, orange, paw paw, apple pine apple, cherry and pears of all kind.

The most popular foods in Nigeria are rice and eba. Rice could be made of different recipes, we have fried rice, jellof rice and it could also be cooked white and eaten with stew. Eba is a by-product of cassava, made by peeling, grounding, sieving and frying cassava, eba is also called garri and it is eaten alongside different Nigerian soups.

Let’s get you started with the right foot, Jellof rice is the most widely eaten of all Nigerian rice recipes and below is how to make jellof rice

Let’s make jellof rice with chicken for 5 to 6 persons.

The ingredient includes:

* 3 cups of rice,
*Fresh tomatoes (full medium sized blender) or chopped 15 to 20 balls,
*Chicken 1 kg
*Maggi seasoning
*Curry powder (1/2 table spoon)
*thyme seasoning
*Onions 2 balls
*salt and pepper to taste

Preparation: parboil the rice for about 10 minutes, wash and set aside, blend or chop the tomatoes and set aside, wash the chicken with hot water and parboil with salt, maggi seasoning, curry powder, thyme and onions(1 ball). Boil the meat until it is soft for consumption then separate the meat from the water, deep fry and set aside, slice the onions and also set aside.

set your cooking pot on the cooker and allow to dry, add about 200 ml of groundnut oil and allow to heat, add the onions, stir and add the tomatoes. Fry and stir till it loses it sour taste then add the water from the cooked meat then more water (about 2 to 3 cups), add maggi, salt and pepper to taste then add the rice and cook till it is soft to your desire ( you can add water occasionally until it is soft)

Serve with the fried chicken and a bottle of coke

There are lots of other foods eaten in Nigeria, foods that are made from other food, like moi-moi, akara are made of beans while pap is made of maize we have different yam recipes, we have the porridge yam and it could also be cooked and eaten with stew. For me, my best food is pounded-yam and egusi soup, egusi is one of the most popular soups eaten in Nigeria, as well as bitter leaf, ogbolo, uha and chicken soup.
