A top Midlands street food operator that promises a ‘taste of the Middle East’ is coming to Coventry on a permanent basis. Cleopatra’s Kitchen has built a strong reputation at Digbeth Dining Club and the Taste Collective in Solihull for flavoursome offerings such as its handcrafted chicken and lamb shawarma wraps.
But from today (Thursday, April 7), diners will not have to attend these destinations to get their fill. That is because they have taken up a residency at Factory at FarGo Village off Far Gosford Street. Business owner Danny Sparkes explained the appetite from the people of Coventry for their food drove the decision to pitch up in the city on a regular basis.

“An opportunity in Summer 2021 came about to take a residency spot in Fargo Village, Coventry and we seriously considered it but it was a risk too far, especially with a busy summer season in full swing,” he said.
“Having done numerous Coventry Dining Clubs over the years, it was always a location where we were popular and when the time was right, we would make our move.
“Fast forward to March 2022, we had a conversation with our friend Stripclub Streetfood (also a resident at Fargo Village) regarding space at the site and that was it. A meeting was set and talks proceeded. A few weeks later and everything was signed. Exciting!”
Danny bought the company from a close friend in March 2020 shortly before Covid struck. Their first events were at Digbeth Dining Club’s Stafford alongside Stripclub Streetfood.
“Since then, we haven’t looked back,” he added. “We’ve done events pretty much everywhere and learnt some harsh lessons along the way. “
The real turning point for Cleopatra’s Kitchen was in December 2020 when it took up a residency spot at Taste Collective in Solihull.
“It was a chance to build on what we had started with a solid foundation and home,” Danny explained. “Continuing to do events with Digbeth Dining Club each week alongside our residency, our team was growing but we were always aware that growing too quickly could be our downfall.”
Cleopatra’s Kitchen has been nominated for numerous awards including for ‘Best Kebab in the UK’ at the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards 2021 – where they reached the final five from thousands of entries.

So what can the people of Coventry expect from the new member of its ever-growing culinary offering?
“We will be bringing an authentic ‘Taste of the Middle East’ to Fargo,” Danny said. “Coincidentally, Coventry Dining Club is where our shawarma wraps made their debut as a special and we haven’t been able to take them off since.
“Think handcrafted chicken and lamb shawarma, fresh salad, pickles, pomegranate molasses and garlic sauce. They are seriously tasty. Also on the menu are a staple item since day one is our Pyramid Bowl, which contains sumac dusted fries with shawarma meat loaded on top, a sprinkle of parsley, red onion and pickled red cabbage finished with our homemade garlic and chilli sauce.”
He added: “We are very privileged and excited to be joining Fargo, we can’t wait for you to dine with us.”
